Origins Church Sunday Morning Setup

Being such a young and small church (1-yr anniversary coming up on Sept 27), a lot has to happen each week for things to come together Sunday morning at Origins (or for any event, for that matter). Take a look at the video below to see what happens in the main meeting area of the Holiday Inn each week.

There are a couple of things I want to write about regarding this topic, the first being THANK YOU! Thanks to all of the people who commit their time and energy on Sunday mornings, during the week, over the weekends, etc. From the nursery folks, to the setup/breakdown peeps, to the sound guys, to the band members, to the greeters, to the people who put table cloths on the tables, to the people who help with our elementary and middle school adoptions, to the people who help haul our trailer, to the people who lead community groups, and more – you aren’t merely helping make church happen, you are partaking in God’s plan to further His kingdom and see our city impacted by the life changing reality of Jesus Christ! From the practical to the spiritual, your help is invaluable!!!

The second thing I want to convey is that we need more help. While it may seem that we have everything covered, we don’t. On Sunday mornings, it is largely the same people helping each and every week. We don’t want these invaluable servant-hearted people to become burnt out or feel taken advantage of. Even the most passionate and committed need a break. Additionally, there is already a ton more to Origins than Sunday morning service, and there is a ton more we want to do. Sunday mornings are great, but to really impact and reach this city for Christ, much more needs to take place. We need creative minds, servant hearts, and willing bodies who are passionate about Christ. We need you. It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new or you’ve been with Origins since day one, there are a lot of opportunities to plug in, help out, and become a more integral part of what we’re doing.

Romans 12 talks about being a living sacrifice and about how we are all one part of a body. If we aren’t all doing our part in the body of Christ, our church simply cannot rise up to full potential. Give us a shout if you’d like to help out: jason@originsaustin.com or brannen@originsaustin.com. We really could use your help, no matter how big/small and no matter how frequent.

Now check this out, it’s pretty sweet…you should be able to click the video and see it larger and better quality on Youtube.com if you want.

See the comments for details on how this video was made…leave me one while you’re there :)

  1. This is awesome! Thanks for putting this together.

  2. A couple of people have asked, so here’s an explanation of what this is…

It is NOT video that has been sped up, but a series of still pictures made into video form. Justin (our drummer) and I both set up our cameras (his outside, mine inside) to take a picture every 5 seconds. Then using some cool Mac software, I sequenced them into a video at 12fps. The cool thing about doing it every 5 seconds is that it’s 12 pics per minute, and at 12 frames per second, that makes 1 second = 1 minute. So at just over 3 minutes of video, the REAL time that lapsed from start to finish was just over 3 hours.

    Pretty sweet, right?

  3. Very cool! Nice work, Jason and Justin! It’s cool to see the room transformed in sequence like that.
