Crazy Love – Chapter 10 Community Group Recap

Last night’s discussion centered on taking action. Francis Chan calls this chapter The Crux of the Matter. What we have read, studied and discussed requires action and resolve. What are we going to DO that reflects God’s crazy love to the world? How are we going to stir up one another to love and good works?

Indeed it would be sad if our lives remained unchanged after 10 weeks of talking about essentially the same thing. We all recognized that we need to do more but also recognized that we need each others help. We need ideas, we need encouragement, and we need accountability. We threw out some good ideas out in terms of how to make this happen in our community and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all gets organized and executed.

The last part of our discussion pointed out that all of this is impossible when pride enters the equation. When I think too highly of myself, I tend only to my wants, needs and desires. We did a quick reference and came up with two verses that we should all focus on and commit to memory…

Luke 14:11 – “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Philippians 2:3-4 – Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Lets do our best to remember these verses every day. To understand why Jesus flipped upside down our cultural understanding of greatness. What it looks like to consider others’ needs more important than our own. We have a great potential at Origins to either become stale-hearted people who are merely hearers of the Word, or instead to become obessed-with-Jesus DOERS of the Word who see lives radically changed!
