More on Finding God in Hurt
The podcast link was posted earlier today, but it is worth an extra post to expand on Sunday’s sermon. If you weren’t there and haven’t listened yet, one thing you are missing out on is hearing a personal story of deep hurt. Dan & Jan Rhinehart share the story of losing their daughter, Amy, to cancer at age 10. The unfathomable thought of losing Jude is quite literally the most crushing thing I can possibly imagine. If it were to happen, I don’t know how long it would take before I could say again that God is good. Dan & Jan have actually had to live through this horror and do indeed say with great assurance that GOD IS GOOD. Take a look below at some pictures of Amy and read the bit of verse that Jan wrote in 1989…
The Pearls in My Strand
She was only nine when the doctors told us
It was cancer.
We wanted so hard to heal her.
Operations and drugs,
Prayers and hopes.
And all the while, the Master was creating
A thing of beauty
From a little grain of sand.Months of ups and downs,
News good and bad.
Though her body became weak,
Her spirit was strong.
She was ten when the battle ended
And she was with the Master.
And in my life the Master’s hand
Added more layers of beauty
To the little grain of sand. Many trials come in life
Like little grains of sand.
The rub and irritate.
But the Master coats each one
With the beauty of His Spirit
And they become
The pearls in my strand. Some day the master will call me
home to be with Him.
He’ll brush away my tears
And I’ll lay at His feet a thing of beauty-
A thing He created in my life-
The pearls in my strand.
