“Revelation Song” – Kari Jobe
We’re entering a new series at Origins that is all about the cross. We’ll have many cross-centered songs during worship, as well as songs like this one that sing of His holiness. This song was written by Kari Jobe who is part of a band in the Dallas area called the Gateway Worship Band. We have a Gateway church here in Austin, but I don’t think the Gateway church in Dallas is affiliated. Anyhow, I really like this song except for one lyric that says “clothed in rainbows of living color”. Um, puke. I’ve been meaning to sit down and come up with something different for that part before Sunday, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Other than that, though, this song is very powerful and pulls a lot of lyrics from scripture. Give it a watch below and let me know what you think.
Oh, the girl singing is Whitney. She’s just one of many talented musicians at Origins. It was a blessing getting to sit down and record with her. Thanks, Whit!

This is one of my favorite songs…love it!
This has become one of my favorite songs, which I heard for the first time just a few weeks ago.
This song wasn’t written by Kari Jobe. There is a recording of it that features her. It was written by Jennie Lee Riddle.
Good to know, thanks for the info.
Jason, you guy’s did a great job on that song and Whitney has a fantastic joyce, if she is not leading in worship yet, she should be soon. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the Rainbow aspect of the song, it is talking about his glory that is surrounding him and can be seen in the book of Revelation.
By the way, this is in my favorites.
I was watching this with Mya and she picked Whit and you out right away. Her next statement was “Where’s Jude?”
Jason,
I also struggled with that line in the song, kind of a whole “Jesus was a hippie vibe.” But, I discovered it is scriptural, and if taught as such to the congregation I think it’s valuable for them to learn. Probably a passage many people don’t know. However, when I first started playing this song I did change the words to “clothed in robes of living color.” I’ve since changed it back and taught congregation what it means. Probably too late to help now but I thought I’d chime in.
“And then, as they stood with folded wings, there was a voice from above the dome over their heads. Above the dome there was something that looked like a throne, sky-blue like a sapphire, with a humanlike figure towering above the throne. From what I could see, from the waist up he looked like burnished bronze and from the waist down like a blazing fire. Brightness everywhere! The way a rainbow springs out of the sky on a rainy day—that’s what it was like. It turned out to be the Glory of God! (Message)
“…a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was[like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns[] of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightenings, thunderings, and voices… Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal… And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures… And they do not rest day or night, saying: ‘ Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!’…”
I don’t get why you think the “clothed in rainbows of living color” is so odd. It basically means that there’s light, in all kinds of colors, surrounding Jesus.
I guess its just how one interprets it.
Love the song guys, God has blessed you with an awesome talent. I’m learning the song myself on guitar and would love it if Jason could explain the strum patterns he used….thank you and God bless you.
